Hey all...its been a day or two since I blogged....but you guys know I've been mad busy. I did finally get that painting done and had the critique yesterday. I also had my last perspective class...y'kno whats wierd? I didn't get all sentimental like I usually do....ha. Wierd...I think its because I kno most of my Instructors and they know me, along with my classmates....so I kno next semester I'll still see them around and will be sayin' "w'sup" and talkin'...so the end of a semester isn't "goodbye", just the "beginning" of sorts....and yo, I'm half asleep.=) My mom called and woke me up from my comatose state.
So it was cool...on a side note, I've been waking up at a decent time these last couple of days on my own accord....and I like it! Its wierd to actually have a honest to goodness "morning" to do stuff. Before, it was getting really rediculous...like I'd go to bed at 5 or 6...just not good....and a hard habbit to break out of, but one day, I just conked out at 12:30am and it was all good from then. For example, today I woke up like 15 minutes ago at 9:30. Good deal. Anyhoo....yesterday morning, I headed out to Kinkos on my way to class to print up my work. It came out nice, but a few things: The sky, which was actually a blue/violet color printed straight up purple. And overall, it printed darker, hiding alot of the subtle nuances. These things are due to the Mac to PC color conversion....the Mac is able to display more colors and all that jazz....while Windows has a more limited palette. That, compounded with the fact that you will NEVER be able to print something to look exactly like it does on screen. It kinda sucks that I can only see how it is REALLY supposed to look if I'm viewing it on a Mac(unless I go in there and start messing with the colors and stuff....then it might print properly, but wouldn't look the same on screen....which I could live with). I wasn't tripping too much because I knew that I could pull it up on the screen for him to look at as well.
After that, I headed to Perspective class and basically, all we did was hand in our portfolios and wait to get critiqued. I had a Butterfinger and talked ot Joey while I waited. She had a cool, neat porfolio, while mine was all haphazardly put together....a bunch of work basically stuffed inside my folder...haha. I have my reasons...so I got called up and my Instructor and I went through my portfolio. He liked a lot my stuff, and in particular, asked me to photocopy 4 of my assignments(orthographic, 2 point vertical perspective, fisheye, and my storyboard) for posterity. Hah...dang...it was a day of strokin' my ego...hehe. Nah, but I was honored...so I went and did that, came back...shook his hand, said the "have a great break...take it easy" type stuff...and I was outies=) I headed down to the Safeway near northpoint to go eat at the Chinese joint I always ate at on break from that class...y'kno...kinda like the last time I'd be doin' all this stuff...and hopped on the 42 and headed downtown.
Since I'd gotten out so early from Perspective class, I went to the bookstore to pick up something in particular. My Digital Illustration teacher had recommended a book to me....a painting book. So I sought it out and found it....on the initial thumb-through, it looked really interesting...just the sort of the thing I was looking for actually. About harmonizing paintings/anything in composition, color, value, direction, and all that good stuff...Eggcellent. So I ripped off the price tag and stuck it in my bag and walked out of the store........HA! Just checking to see if you're still awake....pssh...yeah right...heh...so anywayz, I went to pay for it and headed off to the school library.
I had something like 4 hours to kill before the "moment of truth"...so I went to library to sleep.=) I could've went to mount my printout on some posterboard...like we were supposed to do, but from past experiences, I didn't think my Instructor minded about that stuff. So yeah, I snoozed....and in between, I came up with the composition for my nephew's room wall(remember how I told you my cousin asked me to draw out like a mural type thing for his as-yet-unborn son's room?). I think it'll work out in theory...but uh...I have no idea how its gonna be colored on such a huge scale...I don't really have any experience with that sorta thing. Anywayz....it was FINALLY time to head on over to class.
As the others put up their work...some of it was really cool I have to say...I think most people's was cool in a different way...and I'm not just saying that...first of all, all of them portrayed different subject matter...because it was a "do whatever you want" type of thing. So we had landscape style stuff....we had children's book illustration type stuff...we had comic stuff....it was cool seeing the wide array of stuff. There was one that I really liked....it was painted on a photograph...and he used neutral colors....that was totally cool. I want to try something like that next.
So basically...I got some good feedback from the teacher...but he thought it was really cool...and very solid. What he was talking about was "putting the cherries on top of a cake" to make it even better sorta thing...my classmates dug as well...I kno I dig it....I can always see things that I would do differently in the future, but I think that doing this piece has helped me learn a LOT....considering I was sort of intimidated by color not more than a year ago...so, I can only see myself getting better and better...which is probably the best part. I'm excited to do my next one....of course it won't be for any class, but just for myself. That should be fun.
Funny thing...when I showed it to my Perspective teacher, "Its Ken fromSstreetfighter, right?" When my Digital Illustration teacher saw it, "Its Wolverine right?" Hah...NO! Its just some dude...I tried to come up with a nifty hairstyle...and since white guys can't have afros, I went with the closest thing...thats it! heh...its cool though...
So...here I am....my plan today is to basically hole myself in my room and get this Intermediate Figure Drawing final done....a self portrait, with one hand and one ear showing, with a background. Oye. I'm gonna have to grind this one out...hell, I'll treat myself to dinner out if I'm doing well...(hah...I work on the "Award" system). Well, thats an update for you guys. More later...I think....dang, I still have to pack. I'm going home in 2 days!

Wow, I'm up early...on my own accord too...I got up today at 7:30. I guess cuz I crashed a little early yesterday. I've been really busy. At the computer lab last night till 11:45...and got home around 12:30...hungry and with nothing to eat at home...like, virtually NOTHING to eat except rice....and....a few rolls. So I made due. Hmm...what happened yesterday....
Found an unopened condom in the dryer after drying my clothes at the laundry mat. Eww man. Hmm...oh, and last last night, I finally finished my "game". The one I'd been slowly crackin' at for several weeks now...wow...thinking back, its been a long time. It was a really great game...really great. I don't think I've every played an RPG that took this long, yet still held my interest throughout. If you like this sorta thing, pick up Torment: Planescape. The story is great, and I think coming from me, thems is real kudos(since I'm picky as hell=). Well, I finally beat it just as daylight started to shine through my window blinds....so after that, I decided to catch some ZZzzs.
I'm busy busy busy. Its great I woke up early today...I'll just head down to school and work on this project some more at the computer lab. Grab something to eat too. As for this project, even though I alotted more time to do it than usual...its becoming apparent to me that even MORE time would have been better. But, we make do what we can. (Are you alrite Dan? You're referring to yourself in the 3rd person) Nono...I'm cool. I've also got an anatomy final today...which, I haven't really studied for=P But I'll just cram right before the test...besides...when it comes to "choosing my battles", anatomy class comes somewhere near last. Not that I'm blowing off the class...not at all. I'm absorbing all I can, but in terms of the class work, it takes a backseat to some of my other classes. Hmm...to think about it, I've got an Art History final tomorro....that I uh...haven't really studied for yet either.=X Okay...thats one thing to consider.
So I think I'm gonna take off now...updates will be sporadic cuz of these things called finals. Did I mention it feels good to be up this early? Ha...

Wow...I made it...I'm alive...my appetite satiated, and well rested...who would've known. Yesterday was cool...I just headed on over there and we played PS2 for awhile....then it was time to get brew...and so we went down to the corner liquor store, bought some beer...okay, well "some" doesn't really describe it...we bought 4 six packs of everything from Prohibition to Chocolate Stout, and one of Hooch for the weak...haha. The counter guy was cool and threw in a little hard liquor on the house. We also picked up some chips and salsa....and with all that in hand, Leland and Hiroshi brought it back to the pad while William and I went over to get some grub at Taco Bell/KFC. If you can remember, I was starving my ass off(and tired and cranky to boot), so:
"How much are Chalupas?" cashier:"They are 1.29" "How many different kinds are there?" cashier:"There are 4 different kinds" "Good....gimmie one of each."
William grabbed a bucket of fried chicken for everyone back at the house. The fridge? Was beautiful...haha....full with beer...it was a sight to behold. So we started...I, started on my chalupas and a Chocolate Stout(nasty as all hell btw), and we watched the unedited version of Batman Beyond: Joker's Return. Haha....we're all art students alrite?! And basically just proceeded to act like nuts. Sprinkle some PS2 games like Madden and Tekken Tag, and a whole lot of beer, fried chicken, chips and salsa, among other things, and you're bound to have some fun, right? Anywayz...excerpts of conversation went as so:
"Dude, drink some REAL beer, Hooch is for pansies" "She wasn't a lesbian when I met her" "I beat you...and I'm drunk!" "I wish Jennifer Lopez was here" "I think I'm gonna throw up" "Want some Skittles?" "I...spilled beer on myself" "I need to lay down"
And it went on like that....little Hiroshi downed like 7 beers and was out on the couch...but not after providing some drunk entertainment. Jeff showed up later and kicked back a few....William...haha...has got the alcohol tolerance of a worm....but its all good...he was out around 4 after 2 Hooches...and if you know what Hooch is, its almost like a Wine Cooler. I think I downed like 4 or 5....thinking I still had to be spiffy for shopping with the fam. So things quieted down, Jeff and Leland were chatting it up in the living room...I went back to Williams room and just chilled....read the first 5 issues of Battle Chasers...making occasional outings to the living room for food and beer, and talk....and I was out by 5:30.
Turns out my pops had met up with a friend and was chatting it up till 6am...my brother wrote, "man, dad's partying it up here!" Hehe...made me laugh, thinkin' of my pops gettin' down....but I kno it wasn't anything like that...they were probably sitting at a table chugging down cups of tea and talking...thats how pops is. And so he only got an hour of sleep...shopping was off. I also found out my brother and dad may not come down for Christmas...what is THAT about?? Poor moms...well, she'll have me of course...but it just wouldn't be Christmas without everyone...in fact, it'd be the first Christmas without everyone.
William and I woke up around 2:30 and went out to get some dim sum....chatted it up till about 6 and I headed home. And that was that....we just talked about artsy stuff...classes...its great to shoot the breeze with fellow artists...you can vibe, and know what each other are talking about whereas other people might not. Anywayz, I bought some more right before we were leaving for dinner tonite....ahhh...tonite. Tonite as it stands, I'm going to go take a shower...play my sax, and work on that drawing....and eat somewhere in between..and throw on some tunes, and zone out....heh...I love it.
